Feature: Eat This Poem — Lisbon Literary Guide

For all the bookworms in Lisbon, I wrote a Lisbon Literary Guide over at Nicole Gulotta’s blog, Eat This Poem.

The guide features some of my favorite city spots, including libraries, bookshops, and cozy cafés.

While you’re there, make sure to check out the other city guides written by local bloggers around the world!

Each guide usually starts with a quote from a national writer. I chose one of my favorite Portuguese writers — Fernando Pessoa.

The quote is the perfect introduction to Lisbon:

“For the traveler who comes in from the sea, Lisbon, even from afar, rises like a fair vision in a dream, clear-cut against a bright blue sky which the sun gladdens with its gold. And the domes, the monuments, the old castles jut up above the mass of houses, like far-off heralds of this delightful seat, of this blessed region.”

– Fernando Pessoa

Thanks to this article I had the opportunity to lead a literary tour with a group of American teachers and writers in Lisbon. As a gift, I decided to design a map with some of the spots on the tour, which you can find below.
