Fancy seeing you here,
Welcome to my mini travel illustration portfolio.
As a former art student, I enjoy spending my free time drawing and sketching. When I became a travel writer, I started creating a series of maps and postcards for my blog and offered them as souvenirs during walking tours.
I enjoy the process of sketching elements by hand and then adding colors digitally through Photoshop or the Ipad.
You can find some of my travel illustration artwork below. If you like my style or are interested in adding an illustrated element to your travel articles, I’m always open to collaborations. Feel free to get in touch at joana[at]cityodes[dot]com
Illustrated Maps
Lisbon Craft Beer Map
Brief: While writing my Lisbon Craft Beer Guide, I decided to create this map, featuring some of my favorite craft beer spots in the city. The cups represent bars, the tanks are for breweries and the bottles for shops.
Lisbon Literary Tour Map
Brief: After writing my Lisbon Literary Guide, I was contacted by a group of American writers to organize a city tour for them. As a souvenir, I decided to create a mini literary guide of Lisbon, which featured this map, highlighting some of the places we visited during the tour.

City Postcard Series
In 2020, I started creating a series of travel postcards that represent my view of the cities I’ve lived in or traveled through recently. I began with my hometown, Lisbon, and then moved on to Prague. You can find some of these projects on my Instagram page.
